Our clients are not faceless strangers. They are our neighbors and yours. They are friends, relatives and colleagues.

Our clients - who range in age from 30 to 106 - come from all walks of life. Some need meals for a short time as they recover from surgery or illness, while others require long-term assistance for chronic conditions such as Alzheimer's, diabetes, or age-related issues and circumstances.

We deliver meals. Our meals, which are prepared under the supervision of a registered dietitian, meet individual dietary needs. We accommodate a variety of health considerations and dietary restrictions and are able to deliver the following special diets: Vegetarian, Renal, Diabetic, Heart-Healthy, Sodium-Restricted, and both Soft and Pureed Foods. We have a limited ability to accommodate food preferences outside of those diets.

We provide connection to the larger community. Meals on Wheels provides a source of daily social contact for people who would otherwise be alone. Because volunteers check on meal recipients every day, people who live alone can feel safe, knowing that someone would notice if anything were to happen to them. Referrals can be made by family, friends or neighbors for those who need more than a meal to live safely and comfortably in their own homes.

We deliver the little extras that mean so much. Our clients receive copies of our Client Bulletin, giving them updates on our service, and providing them with information about other services freely available within the community. We deliver other "extras", such as bags of emergency food in the winter, birthday gifts and cards, Thanksgiving cards, and Christmas gifts - all of which are made possible thanks to donations from local community groups and generous individuals. To those who can make good use of them, we are also able to deliver yarn and books. These "extras" are the little things that remind our neighbors that someone cares.

Meals on Wheels is a life saver - between just once a day seeing a friendly face and knowing that people in this outside world care means a great deal. Hearing a knock on the door once a day is something to look forward to. There had been times when the only knock in my door or the only face I saw was the meals on wheels person, for six months or more at a time. This food for the soul can mean more than food (amazing by the way) can be for your tummy.
